Jewelry won’t change the world, but it can transform a moment. Over the course of history, jewelry has been used to make promises, to mark milestones, to celebrate special occasions. The bond promised by the presentation of a ring, the intimacy experienced when a lover’s hand fastens the clasp of your necklace, the closeness acknowledged when a friend gives you a bracelet because it made her think of you… these are the sort of shared moments of joy that make me revel in the personal nature of my work.

MEET THE DESIGNEREMILY HOWELL |
A Baltimore native, Emily moved to Laguna Beach 24 years ago to pursue a career in journalism, but became disenchanted with the corporate world. Following a transformative solo adventure across Southeast Asia, she returned to California to focus on her evolving creative passion - jewelry. Gems by Emily was established in 1998. Influenced by the autonomy of solo exploration and the exotic beauty she encounters in the world, Emily creates handmade one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.
Emily’s current collection is primarily made with gemstones and oxidized sterling silver, giving her contemporary designs a well-worn, vintage vibe. Her designs reflect a very personal, raw sensibility; the flow of expression revealing itself to her as she works, finding perfection in imperfection. Emily creates each piece as though it’s for herself. |
